I’m Tyn (pronounced “tin” / pronouns: she/her/they) — product designer-who-codes/dev-who-designs/design engineer/UX technologist… a.k.a. person who likes to take a bit of time to make sure we’re building the right thing.

Driven by an insatiable curiosity and love of learning, a healthy sense of adventure, and a personal mission to “make technology suck less,” I’ve been creating digital rectangles for nearly 14 years —divs, frames, decks, etc.— whatever helps deliver clarity and the right experience for the intended audience.

As a dorky creative kid raised in the context of geocities-era Y2K internet, the call of the www never left, and after earning my Bachelor of Commerce degree and a few forays into finance, advertising, and even some barista-ing, I ended up retraining myself as a developer and enjoyed 7+ years working as a freelance developer, primarily building Wordpress sites for SMBs, startups, and content creators. As the years went on, I added JS to my arsenal and took on some front-end projects and contracts as well.

In 2019, curiosity led me toward a UX contract that seemed like a good fit for my skills and recently acquired UX education, and the adventure went down a new path, but never straying too far from my roots as a developer. Joining a consulting firm in recent years has accelerated my design and strategy skillset to encompass the full end-to-end product cycle.

When I’m not nerding out in front of my computer, I’m nerding out at the record shop, in the woods as a volunteer scout leader & outdoor educator, journaling and drawing with fancy japanese stationery, and hopefully this season, returning to the pavement with my road bike.

Ultimately, whatever the tool, format, or wilderness, my mission remains to make folks’ lives better by making something just a bit (or a lot) easier, whether that’s through clarity, education, a11y and inclusion, mindfulness, etc. Opportunities for good, inclusive design are all around us, and I strive to extend that thinking far beyond the screen.

Please do check out my Work page for case studies, vignettes, and examples of recent work, as well as a few fun things too. Thank you for visiting, and as as a fluently Ukrainian speaking 2nd generation Ukrainian-Canadian, Slava Ukraini 🇺🇦 Героям Слава!
